IT'S BEEN A YEAR & A DAY!

My husband and I were out having lunch today when our waitress asked us how the adoption was going. She said, "When are you going to be getting your little girl?" We explained that it would probably be sometime next summer. She said, "Oh, that's not so bad, a year is not that far away." After she walked away (BTW only using curse words under my breath) I was thinking....... YEAH, BUT WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN WAITING A YEAR!!! Then it hit me when I thought about today's date. We sent in our application to GWCA on August 2, 2005. I remember filling out the application and dropping it at the post office on my way home from work. I pulled up to the mailbox and gave the envelope a kiss for good luck. I can't believe that it has already been a year and a day since our journey to Ava began.

I hear you! Before we were signed up for China we had been signed up for Belarus, which closed, switched to Lithuania, which closed and then on the China. We have been waiting a very long time! In the end we will all have our babies and the time thing will be irrelevant ... you'll see!

It is amazing to me the time relevance of a year to different people. To us this year will drag as we wait. To others it is going by quickly. (If I hear that one more time from a co-worker I may become violent.) To my four year old neice it is an eternity.

I'm glad there are some who know what this wait is like.

Happy 1 year and a day! As I read your blog last night I thought about the day I went to the meeting with AHH last August. Mike couldn't go so I waited until Oct so he got to go to make a decision on doing this. This has been a long time coming. We started the process in Ukraine in Jan 2004 and traveled in Jan 2005 only to come home empty handed as the whole adoption world there was being turned upside down. What I'm getting at is I completely understand how hard the wait is and can't wait until the day I see "The Stork has Arrived" on your site. On the bright side you are A Year & A Day closer to Ava. Have a good weekend. Oh, BTW, hows the tumor?!!

Kim,
My foot is doing great. Called the doctor's office and they said I was very very lucky for not getting a blister. I have to go back on the 14th for round #2. Ahh, what we women do to be beautiful! =)

Glad the foot is doing good. Hope you have a great weekend. Don't hobble around too much. Did you see the girls out west got together this weekend. I'm jealous!

Your story strikes a chord with me, too. Last August I started seriously researching agencies accepting singles. I believe it was my "red thread" peeking through when I found one in town with an immediate opening! Funny enough, on Friday I got a call from an agency with a spot. Just think, I could have just been starting out now. Crazy! Thanks for reminding me that as cranky and frustrated as I am due to this wait, I am right where I'm supposed to be. Now I've got to go accept that truth.... bleh! =)
